While some dictionaries define the word right as \u201ca privilege,\u201d when used in the context of \u201chuman rights,\u201d we are talking about something more basic. Every person is entitled to certain fundamental rights, simply by the fact of being human. These are called \u201chuman rights,\u201d rather than a privilege, which can be taken away at someone\u2019s whim. Youth for Human Rights International (YHRI) es una organizaci\u00f3n sin \u00e1nimo de lucro fundada en 2001 por la doctora Mary Shuttleworth, educadora nacida y criada en el apartheid de Sud\u00e1frica, donde fue testigo de primera mano los efectos devastadores de la discriminaci\u00f3n y la falta de derechos humanos b\u00e1sicos.<\/p>

Youth for Human Rights International (YHRI)\u00a0se form\u00f3 en 2001. Su primera acci\u00f3n fue poner en marcha un concurso de ensayos a nivel europeo para los j\u00f3venes entre las edades de 8 y 18, en coordinaci\u00f3n con Friends of the United Nations.\u00a0Tres j\u00f3venes de Hungr\u00eda, Rep\u00fablica Checa y Austria ganaron el concurso y un viaje a Ginebra, sede de la United Nations Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) para recibir sus premios el 11 de octubre del 2001.\u00a0<\/p>

Con la expansi\u00f3n de YHRI y su mensaje integral que los derechos humanos deben ser aprendidas a una edad temprana, lleg\u00f3 una demanda de m\u00e1s informaci\u00f3n de todo el mundo.\u00a0En consecuencia, en febrero de 2004 representantes de YHRI emprenden un 45,000 millas World Tour Educativo para aumentar la comprensi\u00f3n de los derechos humanos entre los j\u00f3venes y fundar nuevos cap\u00edtulos de YHRI.\u00a0En el espacio de cinco semanas, los delegados de YHRI viajaron a ambos lugares bien pobladas y remotas, incluyendo Tokio, Jap\u00f3n;\u00a0Bangkok, Tailandia;\u00a0Accra, Ghana;\u00a0Georgetown, Guyana (Am\u00e9rica del Sur);\u00a0y Ciudad de M\u00e9xico.<\/p>
