Making Spirits Bright

About Making Spirits Bright

Making Spirits Bright is a military family support initiative operating under the San Dimas Rotary Foundation and the Satellite Rotary Club of Military Family Support.

We work with community partners, volunteers, businesses, and donors to provide food, school supplies, holiday gifts, grocery and gas gift cards, clothing, household essentials, and emergency assistance to military families in need.

Through the generosity of our community, outreach connected to Making Spirits Bright has helped deliver more than 47 tons of food and essential supplies, thousands of toys and holiday gifts, and additional support to military families from Fort Irwin, Camp Pendleton, Twentynine Palms, and beyond.

Mission

Our mission is to bring hope, dignity, and relief to military families by providing practical assistance, essential resources, and compassionate community support.

We focus on helping military families meet everyday needs while reminding them that their service, sacrifice, and commitment are seen, valued, and appreciated.

Vision

Our vision is a community where no military family feels forgotten or faces hardship alone.

By building strong partnerships with businesses, civic organizations, volunteers, and individual donors, we strive to create a dependable network of year-round support that strengthens military families and improves the lives of military children.

Why Military Families Need Our Support

Military families make sacrifices that are often unseen.

Frequent moves, deployments, separation from loved ones, and the high cost of everyday necessities can create financial and emotional stress. Some families may be forced to choose between groceries, gas, school supplies, clothing, and other basic needs.

Making Spirits Bright helps ease these burdens by connecting military families with practical resources and compassionate community support.

Sometimes, a simple act of kindness—a full pantry, a backpack filled with school supplies, a gas card, or a toy during the holidays—can remind a family that they are not alone.

Year-Round Military Family Support

Making Spirits Bright provides assistance through a variety of programs and community initiatives, including:

  • Back-to-School School Supply Drive
  • Holiday Toy Drive
  • Military Food Drive
  • Marine Birthday Dinner
  • Orchid Festival
  • Thrift Store Donation Drive
  • Grocery and Gas Gift Card Assistance
  • Clothing and Household Essentials Distribution
  • Emergency Assistance for Military Families

These programs help address both immediate needs and seasonal challenges faced by military families throughout the year.

How Your Vehicle Donation Helps

Proceeds from donated vehicles help Making Spirits Bright provide essential resources and direct assistance to military families.

Your donation may help provide:

  • School supplies and backpacks for military children
  • Holiday toys and gifts
  • Food and pantry essentials
  • Grocery and gas gift cards
  • Clothing, shoes, and household necessities
  • Personal hygiene products
  • Emergency assistance for families experiencing financial hardship
  • Transportation, storage, and distribution support for military outreach programs

Every donated vehicle has the potential to make a meaningful difference.

A vehicle you no longer need can help place food in a family’s pantry, school supplies in a child’s backpack, gas in a parent’s car, or a holiday gift under the tree.

Supporting Military Communities

Making Spirits Bright serves military families connected to:

  • Fort Irwin
  • Camp Pendleton
  • Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center Twentynine Palms
  • Other military communities throughout Southern California

Our programs focus especially on junior enlisted families, who may face significant financial pressure while managing deployments, relocations, childcare, transportation costs, and the everyday expenses of raising a family.
